Information About Cairns
Cairns is the hub of Tropical North Queensland, Australia:
the international gateway into a very special part of
the world. It is the heart of the Tropical North and
is an excellent base for exploring this region. The
Cairns International Airport is a short ride from the
city centre.
The Cairns Marina is only one block from the city centre
and is the departure point for most Great Barrier Reef
trips.
In
the evening this small cosmopolitan centre offers the
100 000 residents and visitors a choice of over 100
restaurants. With an abundance of fresh seafood, exotic
tropical fruits and the piquant flavours of native Australian
cruisine, dining out is always a great experience.
The further north you go the prettier the beaches get
with Palm Cove and Ellis Beach being my pick of the
bunch.
Lots
of travellers love Trinity Beach which is wonderful
on windy days as it is well sheltered. It is a good
idea and sometimes cheaper to hire a car and drive as
opposed to being reliant on the local buses.
Unfortunately between October and April you will need
to swim in the Stinger Net enclosures at the beaches
as the Box Jellyfish and friends are a dangerous presence
at our local beaches.
