Darwin Travellers Auto Barn
"You'll never never
know, if you never never go!"
Darwin is like a different world. In fact, you would be excused from thinking Sydney and Darwin are in two different countries, which they would be on most other continents. Darwin is always warm and packed with friendly people known as Darwinites.
It has a laid back and slower pace, even in the 'Green Season' it's an awesome place to visit. So much to do and all based around the awesome natural beauty of the Top End.Great

Our man in Darwin is Ian 'hampto' Hampton, no idea why they call him hampto. When you see Ian can you please ask him how he can handle living in such a hot & steamy place with that huge ginger beard?
Darwin is one of those places where it pays to book ahead to get a good deal. If you are thinking of buying a car we would certainly recommend you visit the Darwin Branch, Hampto is no car dealer, in fact he's bloody hopeless at selling cars, so if you hate slick car salesmen, then you'll love HAMPTO!!

| Important Note: |
As Darwin is a remote city, vehicles
in general tend to be a little more expensive
than in other cities. Also, a constant supply
of vehicles is also hard to achieve and therefore
we are likely to run out of vehicles. If you are
considering purchasing your vehicle from Travellers
Auto Barn and picking it up in Darwin, it is strongly
recommended that you place a deposit prior to
arrival ensuring a vehicle is reserved for you.

About Darwin
Darwin, so close to the Indonesia archepelego, is the
multicultural hub for the Northern Territory and the
gateway to areas such as Kakadu and the Litchfield National
Park. And of course with only a short drive on a Darwin
scale, about 12 hours, you can visit the breathtaking
Uluru.
SOME FACTS:
Names:
Darwin is named after the philosopher Charles Darwin,
famous for developing the theory of Evolution. The Northern
Territory is so called because until recently the area
was largely governed from Canberra, and not by a state
government as with other states.
Geography: The Territory stretches from the
centre of Australia where places such as the inland
city of Alice Springs and Uluru are located to the rainforest/national
park areas of the Kakadu and Arnhem Land in the north.
Numerous islands off the coast of Darwin also comprise
the Northern Territory.
Climate:
The annual monsoon influences the weather in the Top
End along with the extensive land mass in the centre.
Summers (December, January and February, coincide with
the wet, monsoon rainy season. Temperatures are hot
(35+ degrees Centigrade) and the air is extremely humid.
Winter (June, July and August) is the best time to visit
when the day-time temperature is in the comfortable
mid 20 degrees and the humidity is low. It is usually
pretty dry during this time of the year.
Night
time temperatures in the inland areas, especially during
winter, can be as low as -4 degrees centigrade and warm
clothing, including jackets is advised.
Driving the Northern Territory: There is simply
no other way to explore the Northern Territory. From
the adventurous 4x4 drives of the Gunbarrel Highway,
Simpson Desert and the Tanami Track's to the sealed
roads to the major attractions, you surely have to drive
the NT to really experience it!
For an excellent guide to best drives of the NT, check
out the NTEXPLORE website! The website gives you
detailed itineraries for such drives as the Explorers
Way, Natures Way, the Macdonnell Loop and the Pioneers
Path.
